VehiScope ("we", "us", "our") operates the VehiScope mobile application and web portal. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

• Email address and password (hashed) when you register.

Vehicle Diagnostic Data

When you connect to your vehicle via an official VehiScope Bluetooth OBD module, the app collects real-time data from your vehicle's on-board computer, including:

• Engine RPM, vehicle speed, throttle position, mass air flow
• Coolant temperature, intake air temperature, engine oil temperature
• Fuel system status, fuel level, fuel pressure, fuel trim values
• Oxygen sensor readings, battery voltage, engine load
• Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) reported by your vehicle
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is used to identify your vehicle make, model, and year

Location Data

When Location mode is set to Share to portal, the app collects GPS coordinates during drives for trip mapping on the phone and portal. Local only keeps maps on the phone and does not upload coordinates. Off disables GPS and maps while sensors can still log. Cloud sync can be turned off separately for local diagnostics only.

Device Information

We may collect basic device information such as operating system version and app version for crash reporting and compatibility purposes.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Diagnostics & Analysis: We process your vehicle telemetry to provide real-time sensor readings, diagnostic trouble code analysis, and AI-assisted diagnostic insights.
• Drive History: We store telemetry in time-stamped drive sessions so you can review past trips and track vehicle health trends over time.
• AI Features: Vehicle data and DTCs may be sent to AI language model providers (via API) to generate diagnostic explanations and repair suggestions. No personally identifiable information is included in AI prompts beyond the VIN (used to identify vehicle type).
• Account Management: Your email is used for authentication and account recovery.

3. Data Storage & Security

• Account credentials are stored with industry-standard password hashing (bcrypt).
• Telemetry data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in a secured PostgreSQL database.
• Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) with expiry controls.
• We do not sell your personal data or vehicle telemetry to third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your data with third parties except:

• AI Analysis Providers: Anonymized vehicle diagnostic context (sensor readings, DTCs, vehicle type from VIN) may be sent to AI model providers to generate diagnostic insights. No email or account information is included.
• NHTSA VIN Decoder: Your VIN may be sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration public API to decode vehicle make, model, and year information.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

5. Data Retention

• Telemetry and drive session data is retained as long as your account is active.
• You may request deletion of all your drive data through the app or by contacting us.
• Account deletion removes all associated telemetry, drive sessions, and AI analysis data.

6. Your Rights

• Access: You can view all your collected data through the app and web portal.
• Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Data Export: Drive session data is accessible through the web portal.
• Opt-Out: You can disable telemetry upload in the app settings. Location tracking can be disabled through your device's system settings.

7. Children's Privacy

VehiScope is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in the app and on our website with an updated revision date.
